...understand how geodynamic processes, biogeochemical cycles and climate interact with the oceans, how the marine environment and its resources are explored, how the underlying processes are analyzed and how the impacts on the ocean environment can be minimized. You will obtain broad scientific competences and skills allowing you to embark on a geoscientific career.

We are one of the largest geoscience departments in Germany, tightly linked with numerous cooperating non-university research institutions in our neighborhood. Our particular strength is in marine science, with research and infrastructure in the field bundled at MARUM, the University of Bremen research faculty for marine environmental research and home of the German excellence initiative cluster ‘The Ocean Floor – Earth’s Uncharted Interface’. We host one of the three IODP core repositories on campus and boast excellent research facilities in all fields of geoscience. In our training, we follow the concept of closely linking theory with practice and promote the integration of postgraduate students into our research projects and expeditions.

"I enjoy studying Marine Geosciences at Bremen University, because I get to work internationally with very different people while having a great course variety. Besides, I find the linkage of classic and applied geological disciplines with marine research very intriguing."

"Studying Geosciences at Bremen is great fun, because the study program is so incredibly diverse and we get to do lots of practical work from the start. Moreover, we get the chance to check into ongoing research projects early on."
